This place is amazing. The pastries are to die for and the staff is really nice. I would recommend the carrot cake croissants and the breakfast sandwiches.
I’ve been here a few times now and every single thing I’ve ordered (drinks and snacks) has been so delicious. In particular, the savoury pastries have been incredible, including the everything croissant and the croque monsieur. I had the best iced matcha coconut drink, honestly the best iced matcha I’ve ever had. They have a neat selection of coffee beans too; I tried one from a Winnipeg roaster (I believe) for my espresso machine at home, was really good.
You can have incredible pastries but if you make customers feel bad, it’s not worth returning. Monte is maybe a victim of their own success: the baked goods are top notch but the staff seemed stressed and rushed. When I visited, staff wouldn’t answer questions about the pastries and instead pointed rudely and said “this is what we have”. Terrible coffee and I should have known because the staff person asked “medium or large” when we ordered a cortado. The staff also yelled rudely at an older woman who was having trouble hearing their garbled responses. For a business with Christian proverbs all over, I would have expected more kindness. I will not be returning, even for a great kouig amann.
The pain au chocolat and croissant lacked flavor, seemed dry, as if it wasn't made with enough butter. Also found the chocolate tasted cheaper than what you'd find in a very good pain au chocolat. Service and atmosphere were okay.
I love their food, I really do. However the girls at this cafe takes way to long to just make 2 cups of ice latte (10 mins to be exact) and sometime I’m in hurry and can’t wait for all that long so if you plan to come here, expect some waiting. Otherwise food is great. It’s just a shame I don’t have plenty of time to wait because all I want to do is to grab a cup of drink and a pastry and I can do that in a min elsewhere.
This place is a hidden gem tucked away in the west part of Toronto. We ordered the Cannelé de Bordeaux and Pistachio Escargot and they were amazing! I didn’t expect this place to offer such great pastries. Prices were not out of the ordinary. We ordered three pastries and a coffee for $20 which was pretty good! We will definitely come back for more! The owner is super friendly and offered us a rewards card for drinks. We do suggest to offer more seating area for dine ins, but we do understand that the owner may not want to move into this direction.
I lived in Paris for 8 years and this little shop make not only croissants but other pastries that are at par with the ones I had in the french capital. On top of that very friendly staff. That is a perfect combination.
